Folder Compare App Reviews

10 Customer Reviews:

Overall a great usefull tool. Folder & File compare in one App. A few flaws are not so nice. - I would like to see a stop analyzing button. - The Timestamps in "Show Modify Time" are cut to … on the left like ".../12 02:25:55 PM". I cant move the width of the rows? It doesnt help to expand the width of the window to the full montior resolution (1920). The row seems to be fixed. But also my #1 used folder compare.

I WOULD RECOMMEND TO THE COMPANY TO GIVE MORE EXPLANATION ABOUT USE, IE - DIFFERENT COLORS -WHAT DOES THAT MEAN, ALSO WOULD BE A GOOD TO SEE WHAT FILE BIGGER OR SMALLER AND WHICH ONE CREATED EARLIER OR LATER

Tried comparing a dev site to a production site and its been comparing for 5 minutes now. The other compare apps I have take less than 60 seconds for the same site. Had to force quit..

This program looks like a peacock exploded - eew!! Also, on all of my files, I gat "line endings differ"… I NEVER use Windows and the error states Window line breaks.

Comparison takes far too long... a folder with ~1K folders/files on the latest version MacBook Pro 15" Retina i7 2.7GHz Quad Core, 16GB RAM, 500GB SSD takes nearly 60 seconds... thats the best part. Now I have a good comparison showing what is missing on each side - this is where it gets useless: you can only select one item at a time: NO MULTI-SELECT so you have to click one item at a time, right click then choose "copy to the right" or "copy to the left", then after a few seconds a pop-up appears asking if you want to re-compare, click NO then select the next item, wash, rinse, repeat as many times as you have files that need to be copied to the other folder. Hopefully you dont have more than a few. There is no way to disable the pop-up or select multiple files or folders that I can figure out. Yes, I have synch apps that could handle this, but sometimes I dont want everything syncd just some items and/or I dont feel like setting up a synch just for an occasional comparison. The description says something about "if you have filemerge installed"- cant search while writing this to see if that means Id have to buy something else. These seem like such obvious features there must be a reason why not included - being an engineer I get why youd want to diff files/folders, but the majority of the time there is additonal action you want to take once getting the results and its certainly shouldnt be so painful that you decide to write your first review of a mac app because of the easily preventable frustration... multi-select and get rid of the re-compare? pop-up after each copy. Right now in the app store it shows "sale price" of $4.99 - I dont remember what I paid for this, but if it was more, it certainly wasnt worth it - its not worth five bucks. If comparison speed was improved and the multi-select was an option, it might be worth it. Id certainly change my review and update my star rating but since Ive never seen this app updated (looks like Aug 2012 was the last update) dont hold your breath.

First, I’d like to point out that the “Lite” version was pitiful; it only gave a thumbs-up, thumbs-down result for a whole directory tree. Then after that, you’re given the option to update, which I did, because I had a big comparison that I needed to see… Turns out that the app didn’t save any data for the “full” version to check. This wasn’t some dinky folder check; it was 2.5 real days of non-stop comparison (yeh, 3.2 TB takes a while). My beefs with the “Full” version is: On the first error encountered, the app locked-up and had to force quit it because it wouldn’t honor the “cancel” button or the “quit” menu item. Even after I restarted, with not error condition, the “cancel” and “quit” functionality didn’t work. I just think that for $5, the “cancel” and “quit” functionality should work. I may have another beef when I get done with the next 2.5 day comparison, but that doesn’t compute here.

Good program. After reading the reviews of earlier programs, I was a bit uneasy, but decided to give it a try. Terrific, fast, and easy comparing folders, subfolders and files on two different computers and the same computer. This program has made duplication of files manageable.

I need the ability to filter the returned list on =, <>, < or > Most of my files are =, so I really need to be able to see everything else when I am comparing directories.

This application works well enough with simple folders, but quickly becomes unusable when the folder tree has multiple branches. Not worth $4.99, should be $.99

Doesn’t compare contents

This tool cannot compare the contents of the file. It just can compare the folders.

Karthik8 · 10 years ago

Does not work

Example: for two folders it indicated that the folders (with identical names) were not the same but that the contents were identical. Even when I ran it to compare folders, files and revision dates, it still showed the two folders and contents as being both the same and not the same without any explaination of the contradictory results.

Compare, but that's it

Ease to compare, but afterwards - what to do. No guidence of explanations. You are at your own.

Garbage!

What a waste of money and time. Stubbornly will not do what I need, even though pull down menus say it should. Clumsy. Junk.

patcatchina · 8 years ago

Piece of crap!!!!

If i wanted to move/compare one file at a time this would be an ok compare. If you have a lot of files and directories go somewhere else.

I need one more feature for this to be great

I need the ability to filter the returned list on =, <>, < or > Most of my files are =, so I really need to be able to see everything else when I am comparing directories.

Folder compare 2.4 - performs as advertised.
